It's the middle of May already

Blog EntryAug 25, '10 10:33 AM
for everyone

I didn't have any blog ready to post today until I was reading the paper and turned a page to see a story and recipe to make ketchup. The first thing I thought of was who would make their own ketchup.

Now I know a lot of home made items are better then store bought, but come on making your own ketchup. Who uses so much ketchup that making your own would be better? Ketchup is not expensive or hard to find, you can even find large bottles of a name brand ketchup at the 99 Cent Only store.

Besides anything that uses 18 different ingredients is not something I'm going to make from scratch anyway. I'm more the open package, add water, stir and it's done kind of guy.

There may be ketchup recipes with less ingredients but 18 is what this newspaper story had. It looks more complicated then making pasta sauce like my (born in Italy) grandmother did. And yes I'm the buy jar, open jar, heat, and eat kind of pasta sauce guy.

Has anyone ever make their own ketchup? Do all ketchups have powdered mustard in them? Does that mean mustard has powdered ketchup in it? Can you powder ketchup? Where is Martha Stewart when you need her.

Mother used to make homemade catchup, but now it's too inexpensive to buy, that was YEARS ago when mother and dad had 300 or more tomato plants out in the garden.

It's something from another time and from the farm.

Ketchup is way too cheap to be making it myself. I don't use very much anyway so, I wouldn't take the time to make it.

You know... for some crazy reason... after my Del Monte catsup post, I've had a stronger appreciation for ketchup, and a stronger craving for it! I can't get enough of it on my fries now! I would consider making it just for fun!

Hmmmmmm Interesting arcicle, but through reading it, I think it's a complete fabrication... "Gregory Hines" and "Mike Hunt"... "Warren Burger?!"

I was looking for information about the legal end of things... they had to decide on a spelling and ingredients so the American public would know what "ketchup" was. For the label to bear the word "ketchup" it has to have exactly the same ingredients.

This post when corresponded with del monte, mentions this: http://gregoryagogo.multiply.com/journal/item/1114/Here_we_go_again_with_the_crazy_consumer_relations...
